Philippine Consulate in Tampa, FL

Tampa has no Philippine consulate. Consular matters here belong to the Embassy of the Philippines. Consular Section in Washington, D.C., 902 miles away, about 16 h 52 min by road. Before planning that journey, it is worth knowing that the most searched Philippine procedures never touch a consulate at all, and that consular outreach missions periodically bring the counter closer.

Where Tampa is served from

Every Philippine procedure for a Florida resident goes through Washington, D.C.: its district is Alabama, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, plus Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and most of the Caribbean. Distances from the other cities in the state are on the Florida page.

At 902 miles (16 h 52 min), Tampa is far enough from Washington, D.C. that the journey is a genuine expense, not an inconvenience. Plan it around a mission if one is announced.

Florida also has a Philippine Honorary Consulate in Jacksonville, under the consulate in Washington, D.C. Its page gives the contact details from the official lists; passports and dual citizenship are booked with Washington, D.C.

For distances like this, the consular outreach programme is the answer that actually gets used: consulates periodically set up temporary consular offices in cities without one, taking passports and dual citizenship oaths. Appointments are free, passport slots open at passport.gov.ph about a month before each mission, and they fill. The appointment guide explains how the schedule works.

Three procedures that skip the consulate entirely

The most common wasted journey in this system is for a document the consulate cannot produce. There are three of them:

  • PSA documents, the security-paper certificates everything else depends on, are ordered online and shipped internationally.
  • Apostilles: if anyone tells you to get a document "red ribboned" at the consulate, that advice predates 2019 and no longer works.
  • NBI clearance: posted to Manila, returned by post. Do not send the application to a consulate, it will not be processed there.

The counter is unavoidable for passport biometrics and the RA 9225 oath. A notarial document can also be done by a local notary with an apostille, according to the notarial page of the Chicago consulate. Everything else deserves a second look before you drive.

We are not the Philippine Consulate General, the Philippine Embassy or any government agency. We do not book, sell or manage appointments: every consulate runs its own system. We check the details regularly, but they can change without notice, always confirm with the consulate before you travel.
